Learn decision automation
Guides to automating business decisions that have to follow a policy and be explained later: approvals and declines, prices, limits, routes and the reviews around them. They are written to be useful whichever tool you choose; each ends with a short note on where Miji fits.
Decision automation is the use of software to apply a written policy to the facts of a case and carry out the work around the decision: gathering data, calculating, sending the hard cases to a person, acting on the outcome and recording why. It sits between two older kinds of tool. A business rules engine evaluates rules but leaves the data, the people and the record to you; a workflow tool moves work between systems but keeps the policy buried in its branches. The guides below explain the difference and how to get from a policy document to a decision you can defend.
In short
- New to the subject: start with what decision automation is, and the parts of an automated decision.
- Choosing a tool: read how it differs from rules engines and from workflow automation.
- Ready to build: follow the step-by-step guide to automating a policy-based decision.
- Adding AI: read where AI helps a governed decision, and where the policy should still decide.
